The Great Sand Dunes National Park - 10/01/2003

Somewhere north of Taos, NM, west of Pueblo, CO, and between a bunch of mountains lies a giant pile of sand. I mean, it's REALLY big -- the dunes are something like 700' tall from the base. They are basically in a huge valley, up against the western edge of a mountain, right smack in the middle of where sand dunes shouldn't be. Weird.

Ever try to hike up a 700' scorching hot sand dune? We made it maybe halfway before getting too tired and too distracted by jumping off the smaller dunes.
