Purchasing the RV - 06/13/2003
We picked up our 1982 21' Winnebago today in Potosi, MO. Today happens to be Friday the 13th. As I was speaking with the seller, I noticed the address of the place was 666. Later that night, as we were having dinner at Beale on Brodway, we noticed a full moon. Did I mention the localized wrath-of-god thunderstorms that pummeled us throughout the day?
Despite all of this excitement, the RV is fantastic. We drove all up and down Main Street in Potosi that afternoon trying to 1. get temporary tags, 2. get a Missouri state safety inspection because temporary tags are no longer issued without one (huh? what's the point then?), 3. find a service station that does inspections, is open on a Friday, and has a garage big enough for a 10', 21' long RV. This is not easy. We gave up and drove home with no tags.
Driving this beast is quite unlike a car, but we'll get used to it. The passenger seat is bolted to the floor with 4 bolts, but the two in the back happen to be missing, so Erin had a roller coaster ride home.
We arrived home 2 hours and 8 rainstorms later. We foolishly rushed into trying everything out before reading the manuals, so I already broke the generator and discovered a leak in the city water connection and found out the RV electrical plug is a 30 amp plug that only fits into campground outlets. We have a lot of learning to do.
Erin and I are both super-excited to begin our travels. Our precise destinations are still unknown. How we will possibly fit stuff for living for multiple weeks into this RV is also unknown. |
