RV Travel Log

VEGAS!! - 12/13/2003

We've been in Vegas for over a week now. I'm having a ball. Erin's having a smaller ball. There's vast entertainment options in this town, and we've settled into a nice RV sleeping routine to keep our costs down.

Behind the New Frontier Hotel and Casino, on the northern part of the strip between Treasure Island and the Stardust, is a big parking lot full of RVs. We stumbled onto this our second day here and found out it's mostly OK to park and sleep here for free. The Frontier asks that you register with them and only stay for 3 nights, but we've had no troubles yet. The only downside is there are no hookups (it's a parking lot) and there are very loud high-speed freight trains that go by regularly. To recharge our batteries and swap fresh water for our sewage, we spend every 3rd night in an RV park. So far we've spent 3 nights at Sam's Town, which is off-strip but runs a shuttle and has a spa and heated pool, and 1 night at the California Hotel RV Park aka Main Street Station RV Park. This is a parking lot under the interstate in downtown Vegas. It's perfectly fine for our needs and puts us very close to the Fremont Street Experience & downtown area which is VASTLY more fun and cheap than the Strip rip-offs. The 'park' is kind of noisy from all the highway traffic, but only costs $12/night vs Sam's Town at $22/night.

We're looking into some temp jobs to make money to fly home, buy gifts, pay for gas, etc etc. Our exact plans for the holiday season are unknown. Stay tuned!
