I have a (single) job! - 03/01/2004
On Friday I found out Sony wasn't actually going to make me a job offer. This was due to overenthusiasm my a middle-level guy and underenthusiasm by an upper-level producer. Things are weird in the movie business. I'd have been a production hire, which means a single movie's budget would have paid my salary for a specific amount of time, then I'd be on my own to land the next gig. Plus, I would have had to work 50 hour weeks (paying overtime, of course, but still mandatory 50 hours).
I'm getting ahead of myself. I'd actually decided on the Microsoft job before I heard this. After interviewing at Microsoft, I came to realize a couple things that definitely swung me in their direction. The Sony job, even if it paid more money than I'd expected it to, couldn't quite stack up. Still... it would have been a very cool job.
This means I officially accepted the Microsoft job today! Finally! Erin and I are anxious to wrap up the traveling and get on with paying off our debts. And oh, the supreme sweetness of a large comfortable bed and more than 8 square inches of kitchen counter space!
