RV Day 1 - 07/30/2003
Tonight (Wednesday, July 30, 2003) is the first night of the "real" RV adventure. We've been at my mom's in Jefferson City since Sunday, getting the RV ready and taking care of junk. Items of interest include: - we found Erin a beautiful Giant girl's bike with lots of accessories and a recent tune-up for $80. - a Nintendo Gamecube from Target that came with both a free game (Zelda) and a $50 gift card. - I said goodbye to my Supra; it remains at my mom's during our RV trip. - Mom loaded us up with organizers and food and cleaning stuff and lots of other things for the RV. - Erin and I discovered the show Monster House.
We left Jeff City around 2pm and headed to Hannibal, MO, about 2.5 hours away through the cornfields. We are staying at the Mark Twain Cave Campground at, you guessed it, the famous cave of the same name. There are 3 campgrounds near Hannibal, according to both Microsoft Streets and Trips and the monstrous Trailer Life Campground Directory ($24.95 and worth it). This one is the closest to downtown. It's my first campground experience in an RV, so maybe this is the novelty speaking but -- I'm having the greatest time of my life! This is so much fun I can't express it. We took our bikes out (Erin for the first time in many many years) to the Sav-A-Lot in downtown. It's only ~ 2 miles, but there's a giant hill in the middle, so Erin is pooped out now. We loaded our groceries into the milk crates strapped onto our bikes, brought them back, and fixed a chicken fingers and macaroni & cheese dinner. Aaah, this is so cool.
I'm sitting in an air-conditioned RV, typing on my laptop, with a Gamecube (Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4, Cel Damage, and Zelda: Windwaker, take your pick) above me, Miles Davis playing on the CD player, and a toilet, shower, sink, stove, my girlfriend, and all my important belongings less than 10' in any direction. Wow. This is so cool.
The big day!
