Do NOT get sucked into a timeshare - 09/22/2003
OK, so it's not exactly a timeshare. The campground network is called Thousand Trails, they have 57 campgrounds throughout the US, plus a network of affiliates. A lady at the RV show in Houston was offering 2 free nights of camping for an hour of our time. OK, great.
Well. The campground is lovely, there are deer *everywhere* and they'll come within feet of you. They have a nice rec area, a lake, a pool, and other nice things. The hour of our time, however, was the worst 2 hours (??) I could have imagined. This lady was one of those hardcore, sneaky, fake-type salespeople, although she wasn't especially great at it. She'd lay out a bunch of logical things and force us to agree they made sense, then expect us to give them thousands of dollars.
Erin and I placed bets on what the cost would be. I said $300 up front, plus $100 per month. Erin said $250 up front, $150 per month.
The real deal? $4995 to get in, plus $300 in annual dues. They wanted $500 right away, then $120 per month until the $4995 was paid off. I can't believe we were able to keep a straight face when she told us this. I was actually confused for a bit and thought it was $500 one time, then $120 per month for life; I thought this was expensive... until I learned the real amount.
Wow. I don't know what else to say. We spent a miserable 2 hours with that lady... she even made us feel guilty for coming there for 2 free nights.
